Appeals on Wheels

Arkansas Supreme Court addresses more than 1,000 students at October, 2015, Appeals on Wheels in Searcy, AR
The Arkansas Supreme Court addresses more than 1,000 students at Searcy High School prior to oral argument on October 29, 2015.

Appeals on Wheels is a Supreme Court outreach program designed to educate students about their state government. Twice each year, the Court travels the state to hold oral argument outside Little Rock. Local students from middle school through college are invited to attend oral argument and are well prepared to watch the proceedings, having previously received facts about the case to be argued. Justices meet with students afterward to answer questions about oral arguments, the roles and responsibilities of judges, and how the courts work.

Amendment 80 to the Arkansas Constitution, adopted by a vote of the people in 2000, provides that the Supreme Court may meet at such times and places as designated by the court. Ark. Sup. Ct. R. 1-1. Since the Appeals on Wheels program began, the Court has held oral arguments outside Little Rock more than twenty times. The Arkansas Supreme Court is committed to providing more Arkansans with the opportunity to see how the state's highest court and the appellate process works.
